REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES-Modern technologies used to improve the academic performance of the students

 

The possibilities and application of information and communication technology have expanded dramatically during the past thirty years (ICTs). There is no denying that the Internet has enormous potential to raise educational standards, one of the cornerstones of sustainable growth is vital to keep in mind that the Internet, of course, is not a panacea for all of education's problems, the internet can help to unlock human potential that can enhance teaching and learning. To realize the future vision that the world has agreed to by 2030, access to the internet is essential. Numerous avenues exist to raise educational standards. As a result, there are more opportunities for learning inside and outside of the classroom. Technology opens doors to a plethora of knowledge, information, and educational resources. Online resources are used by teachers to plan lessons and by students to broaden their horizons of knowledge. Internet-supported interactive teaching techniques allow educators to focus more on the needs of specific students while fostering group learning. Many opportunities exist for the internet to improve educational standards. New methods of teaching and learning, enhanced accessibility to a wider range of information and resources (Digital Education, 2019). ¹⁵

The Internet has improved technology, communication, and online entertainment, but it has also made significant contributions to education. Students can instantly search the internet for the pertinent data they need. Students had to comb through numerous books before the internet became widely available to find the information they required, any search on the Internet will instantaneously yield a lot of information. As a result, libraries are no longer the best place to obtain information or do study, and it keeps pupils abreast of the most recent facts. One of the most potent informational instruments available in the world today is the internet. For students, using the internet offers many advantages and has been found to be among the greatest locations to learn. Students' lives have altered, and it has made many things simpler for them (21K School, 2022). ¹⁶

Information and communications technology (ICT) has a significant impact on increasing the quality of education, according to the Department of Education. Students can receive a thorough education on the Internet from anywhere in the nation because of its capacity to hold a limitless number of resources. ICT access improvements lead to better education for all. Teachers and school administrators can dramatically improve the quality of learning in the public sector by utilizing shared connectivity and creative teaching techniques with ICT integration in the classroom. The DepEd views the private sector as a crucial partner in putting these initiatives into practice, in addition to enhancing present policies. The Global Filipino Schools Program, a long-term educational endeavor that aims to transform select public schools into hubs of ICT excellence and innovative teaching methodologies, is one of the DepEd's joint initiatives (Krista Garcia, 2016). ¹⁷

Digital books help teachers and students engage and interact more frequently during the learning process. Ebooks enhance students' learning experiences by incorporating videos, animations, and changing displays. Ebooks are for every age, from kindergarten to university level. These digital books have multiple interactive features, like pen tools, read-aloud, annotations, etc. With these features, it prevents the students from bringing tons of books and other stuff to school. Students can also use eBooks offline by downloading their files through the internet; this way, they can conveniently learn anytime and anywhere (Harman, 2022). ¹⁸

Virtual education has played a significant role in the Filipino students’ education as COVID-19 shifts around the world. The digital learning system presents a lot of fresh materials for the students' convenience as they advance through their studies, making eBooks a new source of knowledge. Rex Education, a learning materials provider, expanded the offerings by producing eBooks as a substitute for traditional textbooks. Students became more at ease with using eBooks; one device can be a substitute for a whole encyclopedia (Legaspi, 2021). ¹⁹

Online learning platforms improve students' learning experiences and give the students more time to learn and do activities. Game-based learning is a type of online learning platform in which users can have fun while learning by playing games (for example, Prodigy Math Game, Quizlet, and Kahoot) (Arden, 2021). ²⁰

 Applications for intelligent technology are just waiting to be proven and discovered. Technological developments can be incorporated into learning and educational situations. E-learning, one of the key branches, is characterized as a method for rapid learning and content dissemination using the Internet and information technology (escripts, 2021). ²¹

People have accessed information through vertical access and applications, analyzed the impact of expert systems, and introduced intelligent services to education. A technical monopoly, for example Microsoft, Apple, and Google, is studying intelligent robots to help with learning. Users hope modern technologies will resolve stubborn problems in education, form solutions, and build new productivity tools plus users think it is one way to help students perform daily activities (Zhu, 2016). ²²
